This place will forever be in my heart; whenever friends come to town and ask me where they should go, I always say the Fort Worth Stockyards. It's the perfect place to walk around and see what Fort Worth is all about, and there's so much to do and see in this area. E. Exchange St. is lined with western wear shops, upscale boutiques, bars, and restaurants. Be sure to cross Main Street to W. Exchange St. to shop at the General Store for Texas souvenirs and the famous boot store, M.L. Leddy. Mule Alley is the latest trend in the Stockyards. Don't miss it. Traffic stops, and spectators stand on both sides of E. Exchange Street to wait for the herd to come through, with real cowboys steering them down the road. The daily cattle drive happens twice daily, at 11:30 am & 4:00 pm, and is a site to see, especially if you've never seen a Longhorn. Afterward, check out the livestock exchange building and the stables and get your photo taken on a live Longhorn for only $10\. Kids will love it. Be sure to stop in at Billy Bob's Texas for a mechanical bull ride, grab a beer, and peruse the souvenirs. Parking is no longer free. It's a 3-to-4-minute drive from the downtown Tarrant County Courthouse. It's one of the best outdoor areas in Dallas-Forth Worth for events, and you'll get the beautiful downtown Fort Worth skyline as a backdrop. I recommend going when there is no event, as it can get hectic. I would refrain from bringing the kids to some of the events there. Kayak the river or get your legs working on a paddle boat—either way, the water is lovely. Hopefully, you'll find some shade. My family never tires of visiting here. There is always something new that we may have missed or never seen before. I don't think I've ever seen the whole zoo on one trip, but we try. I ensure we know what's most important to us before getting too tired. It's usually the lions and the monkeys, but believe it or not, my favorite thing is to ride the train around the zoo. You get to see so much more of the zoo, and it costs very little to ride it. At the end of October, families dress up in costumes and head to the zoo for Boo At The Zoo. There are stations throughout the zoo that hand out Halloween candy and fun tinker toys for the kids. The event is free, but a zoo admissions fee is required. Half-price admission on Wednesdays. It comprises over twenty specialty gardens, a forest boardwalk, a water garden, a tropical paradise garden, and several gardens highlighting plants native to north central Texas. Kids will love exploring the Japanese Garden, the Rose Garden, and the kid-friendly nature center. Springtime is our favorite time to visit because it's not hot, and the spring wildflowers are abundant. It's open every day of the week from 8 am to 6 pm. This area is home to five museums: The [Kimbell Art Museum](https://kimbellart.org/) (home to the only Michelangelo in the Western hemisphere), the [Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth](https://www.themodern.org/) (best design building in Texas), the [Fort Worth Museum of Science and History](https://www.fwmuseum.org/) (fun the entire family - it's a kid's museum at heart), the [Amon Carter Museum of American Art](https://www.cartermuseum.org/) (explores the diversity and complexity of American creativity over the last 200 years), and the [National Cowgirl Museum And Hall of Fame ](https://www.cowgirl.net/)(celebrates the historical women of the American West).
